Ten Open Fairs ahead

There are now no fewer than ten Open Fairs lined up to take place over the coming months.

The first date for your diaries is Sunday 3rd June, when the Open Fair movement reaches Cork for the first time, at the Garryvoe Hotel, Castlemartyr. (UPDATE: Castlemartyr fair has had to be postponed. As soon as we have a new date and venue, we'll post the details here.)

A fortnight later, there's a second Open Fair at the Royal Theatre, Castlebar, on Sunday 17th June. Then we're back to Ennis in July, when the Auburn Lodge hotel hosts an Open Fair on Sunday the 1st.

There are also Open Fairs planned in Clonmel, Belmullet, Dublin, Killarney, Donegal and Miltown Malbay, with dates yet to be confirmed, so watch this space.

We're now accepting bookings for all these fairs now, so if you or anyone you know would like to try your luck at self-employment, now is your chance. You can download an application form from the top menu on this page, or by by clicking this link.

Good luck to one and all!

Another success in Kerry

The first Open Fair in Kerry -- at the Carlton Hotel, Tralee last Sunday (4th March) -- was another great success. Some 80 exhibitors took part in the event, and there were sales worth more than €5,500.

Jimmy Deenihan TD, Minister for Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht Affairs, performed the official opening. The minister also indicated his commitment to the success of the movement, which was music to our ears.

We'd like to offer our sincere thanks first and foremost to the local organiser, Brigid O'Connor, for all her hard work in making the Open Fair happen. Thanks too, of course, to Jimmy Deenihan for taking time out to support the event, and to Breda O'Dwyer of the Institute of Technology, Tralee, who also gave a public address.

We're also extremely grateful to the management and staff of the Carlton Hotel, Tralee, for giving over the use of their conference room for the event, and for being so very helpful. Thanks to The Education Centre, Tralee, for supplying tables.

Last but not least, a big thank you to all the exhibitors who took part, and to the people of Tralee, who came along to show their support for local enterprise.

The next Open Fair, is in Roscommon on Sunday 11th March, and after that we go to Donegal, for the last Open Fair of the month, in Gortahork on 25th March. You can download an application form for either or both of those fairs by right-clicking this link.

Open Fairs in Donegal, Kerry and Roscommon

You wait months for an Open Fair, and then three come along together!

The next Open Fair takes place at the Carlton Hotel, Tralee, Co Kerry, on Sunday 4th March, organised by Brigid O'Connor.

A week later, the second Open Fair of 2012 is at the Community Centre at Four-Mile House, Co Roscommon, on Sunday 11th March. That one is organised by Marian Rimmer.

Then, at the end of the month, the third Open Fair is at the Tír na nÓg Centre in Gortahork, Co Donegal, on Sunday 25th March, organised by Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill.

We're now happily accepting applications for all of these Open Fairs, so whatever your ability is, why not see if you can find a market for it among your neighbours and friends?

Even if you don't want to exhibit, we'd be really grateful if you could help us get the word out by any means possible.

If you have access to a printer, click this link to download a poster which you could put up in public places in your community.

Thanks everyone.

New Year fairs

Onward and upward. We're delighted to be able to let you know that, in addition to the Open Fairs in Clare and Mayo in the coming weeks, there will be further fairs in the New Year in counties Roscommon, Kerry and Donegal.

Three committed and energetic volunteers - Hannah Mole in Roscommon, Brigid O'Connor in Kerry and Senator Brian O Domhnaill in Donegal - are all busy making plans for Open Fairs in early 2012.

If you'd like to exhibit at an Open Fair in one of these areas, we'd be very glad to hear from you. You've got from now until January to organise a display of your skills, and open that door to self-employment. Go on.

Dublin fair postponed

Sadly, we've had to postpone the planned Open Fair at the Red Cow pavilion on Saturday 12th November. We weren't able to get the word out widely enough and as a result there was a shortage of applicants.

Please accept our apologies if you were planning to exhibit. However, we will be rescheduling it, so watch this space...

Our thanks, too, to the Red Cow Moran hotel for their patience.
